The Metropolitan Community Church of South London is a truly unique Christian Church for many reasons. What ultimately sets us apart from other Churches are the ideals that we follow:
Inclusivity
The richness of MCC South London is that we seek to be a truly inclusive Church. We believe that 'God so loved the world' and we try in every way to reflect the belief that this means everyone. In everything that we do and say we are careful that we do not exclude someone because of their gender, race, age, physical challenges, social-economic status or sexual orientation. To that end, we worship with inclusive language, meaning that in the language we use there is no sexism, racism, ageism or classism. Our passion to be inclusive is manifested in our commitment to build a Church for ALL people.
Healing and Wholeness
We recognise that many in our community are in recovery. We feel that the brokenness in our lives does not have to remain, but can be replaced by the health and wholeness that God intended for all of creation. We believe that all people are in need of Gods healing touch, and we support that process for individuals in every way we can. It is our understanding that to follow Christ always requires that we overcome our brokenness. Unlike some other Churches, MCC South London invites people to bring their brokenness to Church, but expects that by bringing it the individual is seeking the healing that only God can provide.
Every Member is a Minister
We believe in the priesthood of all believers and that each one of us is a 'minister' involved in our Church. We are quite clear that Christ does not call us into Christianity, Christ calls us into ministry. Anyone is welcome to attend MCC South London for as long as they wish without becoming a member. When a person feels that they are ready to be a member, we welcome them and expect that they are willing to make a commitment to be in ministry. There are countless ways to serve God, but they cannot be done without people who decide to heed Christ's call to "follow me".
Christian Caring
We believe that caring for those who are in need is essential if we are to bear the title Christian. We strive to be a community reaching out to people in their need, as God has reached out to us in our need, whether it be physical, emotional, or spiritual. In a world filled with the brokenness caused by prejudice, poverty and disease, there is a tremendous need for caring that we as a community can provide. We believe that the Spirit of Christ is seen as the Church helps to care to others.
Cell and Celebration
The two primary ways that we celebrate God's presence in our lives at this Church are through small groups and in our services of celebratory worship. On Sunday evenings we come together as members of an extended family to celebrate in worship. Our services are lively and music plays an important part. The Communion meal when we gather around the table of the Lord is the centre of our worship. In our Omega group we come together with a small number of people to share, study, pray and support one another. Any Church can be overwhelming, and we know that MCC South London is no exception in that area. That is why we suggest that people come and find a place within a cell group so that they will have a family within our church family.
We are Called to be a Witness
There are many ways that people learn of God's love. And there are scores of Churches in South London. But we believe that MCC South London plays a role so different from every other Church in that we believe we are called to be a unique witness to God's love for all people. We are aware of the needs those on the 'outside' of religion so often face. And we believe that we are called to help meet those very needs. Jesus said, "To whom much is given, much is expected". God has richly blessed this Church and by doing so calls us to share what we have been given with people outside our parish.
Under Construction
Our services of worship will change and grow with us.Our service to the community will change and vary. Our ministries within the church will also change and multiply as the Spirit of God moves and leads. Won't you join us ? God is here ! We encourage you to come and see what blessings God has in store for you. God loves you and we look forward to getting to know you.
